The ancient town of Owo, Ondo state last Friday was agog when the town received August visitor as the Vice President of Nigeria in person of Professor Yemi Osinbajo came to pay homage to the royal father Oba (Dr) DVF Folagbade Olateru -Olagbegi III (CFR) in continuation of the door-to-door campaign for President Mohammadu Buhari's re-election. The palace chiefs were in their best native agbada flowing gowns and dangling on their necks were their beads .Canopies were set in the palace as men and women thronged the palace to have a glance at the August visitor, all were in high spirit.In fact human and vehicular movement were halted for over 45minutes due to the mamoth crowd.
The royal father too was ready as he wore his traditional native dress , agbada , and with a cap to match while on his neck too were two coral beads dangling .His beautiful Queen, Olori Yeyesa Ololade who was in her native attire to receive their visitor.A red carpet was rolled out for the Vice President as he received VIP treatment. In the town security was beefed up as armed to- the-teeth-soldiers were drafted there to forestall disruption and break down of law and order.
The arrival of the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo who was accompanied by the Ondo state Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) electrified the party supporters as the deafening shouts of Sai Baba ! Sai Baba !! rent the air with their four fingers raised asking for him to continue his second term.
At the palace , the monarch who had prepared for the August visitor was excited seeing the support the August visitor received .
In his speech, the state Governor solicited for the support and prayer of the Monarch and enjoined the people of Owo to come out en mass on the 16th of February and vote for Buhari to continue his second term in order to complete the projects he started.
The governor who was thrilled seeing many people behind him spoke in his native dialect , Owo asking them to give him full support. He said ''even Buhari's enemies know that he (Buhari) is truthful and has integrity.Where we are today we need a truthful person to progress our nation. Nigeria is blessed but there is too much corruption and that is why we must choose truthful leader ''.
The VP was excited to address the APC supporters in Mydas Hotel , where the Town Hall meeting was held. He unfolded the laudable achievements of the present administration under PMB ,and prayed that he would achieve more if given the opportunity to continue.As the leader and community ruler , Oba Olateru-Olagbegi III reiterated his support for the government.
The Monarch demanded that the Federal Technical University should be cited in the ancient town of which the Vice President happily agreed to and promised that the Technical College will be upgraded to Federal Technical University while thunderous shouts of Sai Baba!Sai Baba !!rent the air again.
Pa Jacob Adebimpe Fajoyomi a man of Virtue
To fulfill all political righteousness as the history of the politics in Owo will not complete without visiting the astute politician Chief Jacob Adebimpe Fajoyomi (98),who is highly respected and honoured because of his Spartan lifestyle and being a political juggernaut . Osinbajo was led to the nonagenarian 's house where he was met waiting to receive the August visitors at Ogbonmo residence.
According to Fajoyomi's daughter, Ibiyemi, she said ''someone asked for the eldest man in the town and they mentioned my father's name , that was why they came to my father. When the Vice President and the Governor Aketi came our house was filled up and I could not go in''she said .When asked what they discussed , Ibiyemi declared ''I did not know what the politicians discussed with my father''.
All efforts to speak to the 98-year- old politician and administrator, Chief Fajoyomi failed as the daughter said her father was not available . According to Jide Tububo, the people of Ogbonmo were waiting and had besieged the old man's place.''I love it, we really appreciated giving the old man honour,respect and dignity'', Tububo said.
