It was a great day when the visually impaired played for the deaf and dumb .The wedding ceremony was well attended.Taiwo Abiodun was there
The Bridegroom was dressed in lemon colored long sleeves with a cream colored suit while the Bride's immaculate white wedding gown sparkled with shoes to match. As the Bridegroom slipped the wedding ring into the Bride's fourth finger , a prolong kissing followed , and Camera men who thronged the venue quickly went into action as they struggled to take the most thrilling scene and they continuously clicked their cameras .The whole place went into frenzy and the well wishers gave a thunderous clap .The couple who are deaf and dumb were formerly joined together at Owo Town Hall ( a.ka. Oke Mapo) Registry on December 20, 2014 . The wedding between Kunle Oluwadare and Omolola Onipede came up one year after their courtship .
The courtship that started in 2013 eventually came to fruition when the two families came together in approval of their children's union .On that Saturday morning of December 20, 2014 the Bridegroom with his parents and family members came from Akure to Owo to seek Omolola's hand in marriage .While an introduction and engagement which are part of the normal Yoruba tradition was done .While the Bridegroom brought all the necessary required 'ingredients' needed for the ceremony .Nothing was left out.As normal Yoruba tradition the Bridegroom's friends prostrated , while the veiled Bride was brought out and unveiled by the Groom.As a Christian ,the Bride picked the Holy Bible when asked to pick only one item she cherished among the items brought for her by her husband , again a loud ovation followed.
However, the Bride price ( Owo ori Iyawo, Owo Baba Gbo , Iya Gbo and others) paid by the Bridegroom's parents was returned to the Bride's parents and said it is not in their tradition to sell their daughter.Again , another thunderous clap followed.
Reception
At the reception which was held at the Bride's family house at Aruwajoye street where friends and colleagues of the couple were present to entertain their guests and the newly wedded couple .The blind or visually impaired from The School of the Blind sang , played piano and beat the leather drums .As the music blared from the four hifi speakers placed at the strategic positions the well wishers danced and rejoiced while the newly wedded couple with their friends who are also visually impaired, and the deaf and dumb.Their colleagues from the Special school ( of the deaf and dumb and the visually impaired) also giggled their waists even though they could not hear but understood the rhythm but seeing others moving their lips, giggling their waists they tried to imitate them.The deaf and dumb watched how others giggled their waists and raised up their hands , they thus tried in emulating the normal ones .The visually impaired ones were not left out as they sang and danced even though they stepped on people- no thanks to their lack of sight.
How they met
Through an interpreter,Mrs. Helen Famuwagun who doubles as their teacher in the church interpreted the couple's signs .According to the Bride who is visibly happy, she said she lives in Owo, and has been looking for a nice and responsible man which she now found as her heartthrob, Kunle." We met in 2013 and courted for over one year .I know his parents and they too know me and my parents very well". Asked whether there are no suitors , she replied ' there are many of them coming but I decided to chose Kunle for he is understanding and caring.Kunle is a man after my heart " , she gesticulated to her interpreter who interpreted it for the reporters.
The couple who both attend GOFAMINT said they were happy to have married themselves.Through their interpreter who is also their Church teacher , Mrs.Helen Famuwagun , Kunle said he does not want any woman in his life except his wife ,Omolola .
Teacher
I am Mrs Helen Famuwagun, I am one of their teachers in GOFANImt , most of them don't marry normal person but themselves . they married themselves for they understand their sign language.In the church we used to teach them that they should not 'see' each other before they got married..And this they obeyed because we monitored them very well.Their bed should not defiled , we tell them the way of God , we monitored them seriously " she continued " as a preacher and pastor I preach to them it is a sin by making love and defiling their bed .We relate with them by sign language , because of their nature .
On the nature the Special couple have , Famuwagun said they( the Special People) are very jealous so they cannot marry anyone else beyond themselves so If they get married to themselves they will understand themselves better , it is always fatal whenever they are annoyed ".She added that this is not the first time they are getting married.
The Bridegroom
Kunle said he met his heartthrob in a friend's place on May 10, 2013 and got interested in her. he said " I like her when I saw her " When asked whether he would have her only or become a polygamist , he responded , nodding his head and through an interpreter said " I would not like to have three or four wives but only one" .Teased further in how many children , he said although he would like to have many children but it depends on God wish.
What would happen if he does not see his wife for a day ? Kunle with his body language and irritated tried to speak but used sign , interpreted as " If I don't see my my wife for one hour I will be agitated and would not be happy" , he added that " She is going with me to Akure now ,now", when interpretd everybody burst into laughter.

The visually impaired sang , danced and were all happy .One of them Temitope Ariyo ,who is the leader of the school Band said " we are happy to play for our colleague, though we cannot see them but they see us.Today is another happy day for the couple ". Olorunfemi Seun, and Tosin Oladapo wjo are also visually impaired who are the back -up danced as they played their own chorus
Bride's parents
Chief Anthony Adeyeye Onipede and his wife Mrs.Taiye are the parents of Omolola the Bride .
According to the parents , their daughter was not born like this but was observed that she could not talk or hear when she was a toddler ." Omolola was born as a twin, but her twin sister died at infancy ", she was still crawling when we discovered that she could not talk or hear, the parents chorused .
Onipede said " I am her father , I did not immediately know that she could not talk or hear .I was in Onitsha then as a soldier .It was my late father who first noticed this .We went to places , hospitals , and churches whether it was a spiritual attack but no progress"
Onipede continued "I made effort to take her to school, she went to deaf and dumb school in Akure, she also went to Technical College , Owo , where she learnt Painting and decorating."
Asked whether her daughter was forced to marry a challenged person like her , but the mother said 'no', , " it was Omolola who said she would marry Kunle, they both went to same school, and I think they would understand themselves better .I am happy for their coming together and I am told their children will be normal when they have children"
Parents of the bridegroom
The parents of the Bridegroom exhibited joy throughout the occasion.When interviewed , the father , Rufus Oluwadare, a Shepherd at Christ Apostolic Church ( CAC) Akure said "my son was not born like this .I am the happiest man today for my son to be wedding today.I have done two weddings for my two children this year and this is the most interesting and unforgettable among all.Yes, they have challenges but see how God compensate them with this crow.What I know is that if a bad person blocks their way God had a way of compensating them".
The Bridegroom's mother said " He is selective as he does not want anybody except this lady .They have introduced some divorcees and single mothers to him but he always rejected them".She added that her son was not born with challenges , she however blamed her enemies who inflicted this on him when he was a baby , she said " I believe it is the handiwork of evil doers.But what do we do?We still thank God for everything"
Chief Fehintola Famulagun who witnessed the occasion said she was happy that the marriage took place , in her words " we have been preparing for this big wedding , and I prayed to live to see my niece's daughter on this day .Omolola is kind to a fault and this is a lesson to us all that disability is not an excuse for anybody .The couple are extremely happy .There are a led bodied who cannot do this type of wedding "
Chief Olubola Olusola Ogunleye who came to represent the Olowo of Owo Oba David Folagbade Olateru -Olagbegi III said " I am here to reorient Olowo of Owo, at this occasion.I am happy for this wedding that took place , despite their challenges they are able to forge ahead .Let us give kudos to them , and I thank the parents for not choosing for them",
Mrs.Kehinde Fabolide , who is a twin sister to the Bride's mother was happy too , she said " we should thank God for everything.You can see my sisters who all came from America, Lagos and Akure to witness the greet occasion.God is good"
